چکیده

Abstract Hazards and operability analysis (HAZOP) is one of a dozen‐structured Process Analysis (PHA) methodologies that assess risks associated with operating processes to mitigate their consequences. HAZOP applies all six stages process design from discovery decommissioning. Industry massively adopted PHA as consequence several industrial disasters in the 1970s increased society's scrutiny chemical operations. HAZOPs are conducted by multidisciplinary teams rely on set guide words combination system parameters identify deviations intent. The team discuss causes consequences deviations, project owner modifies accordingly. It relies heuristics rather than algorithms, so formal structure gives practitioners false sense comprehensive. Academic institutions increasingly apply PHAs experimental work, but scope often ill‐suited for this environment it requires dedicated personnel particular expertise. Here, we outline essential features early career researchers engaging development conditions include, example, high temperature, pressure, toxic compounds (Hg, phosgene, CO), potentially explosive flammable mixtures like organic peroxides. Web Science indexed over 100 000 documents mention safety 2021 assigned 1500 engineering. A bibliometric grouped them into five clusters: (1) lithium ion batteries nanoparticles, (2) fire, simulation, combustion, (3) models, risk, systems, techniques (including HAZOP), (4) water treatment, (5) mechanisms thermal runaway. Teaching "operability" in undergraduate chemical engineering design education

This paper presents a proposal for increased emphasis on operability in the Chemical Engineering capstone design courses. Operability becomes a natural aspect of the process design course for a project that is properly defined with various scenarios and uncertainty. Key topics in operability are the operating window, flexibility, reliability, safety, efficiency, operation during transitions, dy...

Identification and assessment of hazard in the Refractory Brick Production Company of Gonabad, Iran, using the hazard and operability technique

Background: In the refractory brick manufacturing industry, because of the high risks associated with the level of dust in the factory environment and thermal stress, a precise identification of industrial hazards is required as a part of safety analysis. The aim of this study was to introduce a preventive approach to risk identification and assessment in the refractory brick production ...

An automated system for batch hazard and operability studies

A widely used hazard identification technique within the process industry is HAZOP (hazard and operability study). To overcome the repetitive and time-consuming nature of the technique automated systems are being developed. This work considers batch processes, in which material undergoes processing in distinct stages within the plant equipment items according to a set of operating procedures, r...

Hazard and operability (HAZOP) analysis: A review of basics

Hazard and operability (HAZOP) methodology is a Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) technique used worldwide for studying not only the hazards of a system, but also its operability problems, by exploring the effects of any deviations from design conditions. Our paper is the HAZOP review intended to gather HAZOP-related literature from books, guidelines, standards, major journals, and conference proce...
